a $10 million upgrade to DAYU asphalt plant

DOWNER Infrastructure took a significant step towards a greener future with the opening last month of a $10 million upgrade to DAYU asphalt plant(www.asphalt-plant.cn).
The integrated manufacturing facility will be the first on the Sunshine Coast to be able to produce warm mix asphalt.
Warm mix was produced at between 120 and 140 degrees, instead of the traditional hot mix temperature of 160 - 180 degrees.
That means there is less energy used to heat the asphalt and that means reduced carbon emissions.

"The other real positive is the benefit to the work crews and pedestrians, as it is safer."
The plant will conduct its first warm mix trial early next year, primarily for key clients in Main Roads and the Sunshine Coast Council.
This asphalt plant upgrade eventually is for all our asphalt to be warm mix and we can also recycle current roads out of this facility.
We take the profiles currently on the roads back to the plant. They then go through a process and we can reuse that material. We know the council is particularly driven towards an environmental and sustainability future, so we thought it was a great opportunity to pave the way for a greener future. and the upgrade would likely mean more jobs as the volume of work increased, promoted economic development.
